How It Works
The MT21 features a high‑accuracy telescopic linear displacement sensor with precision balls at both ends. One magnetic socket mounts to the machine spindle, the other to the worktable. As the machine follows a programmed circular path, the ballbar measures the actual radius in real time and compares it with the ideal radius. Any deviation reveals geometric errors, servo mismatches, backlash, or control system inaccuracies.

I. MT21 Wireless Ball Bar
The MT21 Wireless Ball Bar features a high-precision telescoping design and linear displacement sensors, with a precision ball at each end. During operation, the precision balls are mechanically positioned and held in place by two precision magnetic cups made of soft metal; one magnetic cup is attached to the machine tool table, while the other is attached to the machine tool spindle or spindle housing. When the machine tool moves along a preset circular path, the device accurately measures the actual circular path and displays the radius in real time. By comparing the measured values with the set path, the machine tool’s performance can be evaluated. The device also features a multi-dimensional centering mechanism to ensure precise alignment during operation. Theoretically, a machine tool with excellent positional accuracy should follow the set circular path closely.
The MT21 measurement software provides a wizard-based workflow that allows for quick and easy testing of the circular paths described above. The collected data can be used to automatically generate graphical analysis reports in accordance with GB 17421-4, ISO 230-4, ASME B5.54, and JIS B standards. The software supports multiple languages, including Chinese, English, and Japanese. It features five-axis simultaneous motion accuracy testing for five-axis machine tools in accordance with ISO 10791-6, as well as prompts and an online help manual. Additionally, it offers motion trajectory simulation and real-time display of test trajectories. It can also calculate overall positional accuracy metrics (roundness and roundness deviation), enabling true spatial analysis of the machine tool. The equipment software includes automatic generation functions for mainstream system programs such as FANUC, SIEMENS, MAZAK, and OKUMA, and features a perpendicularity measurement function.
